The movie is an absolute delight. It is basically a satire on the abundant corruption going on in Indian politics, news media & business and bureaucracy. The movie revolves around 2 young, naive, enthusiastic & idealistic photographers – Vinod Chopra (Naseeruddin Shah) & Sudhir Mishra (Ravi Baswani) who run into a cackle of crooks.
Vinod & Sudhir start up a photo studio at Haji Ali, Mumbai. They arrange for an inauguration ceremony & order ladoos, gulab jamuns, samosas & beer bottles for the same. They keepy announcing publicly – Is sheher ke sabse beautiful Beauty Studio ke 50% maalik Vinod aur Sudhir aap sab ka swagat karte hai. Ut their happiness is short lived. The appealing table full of eateries is vandalized ruthlessly. But nothing shakes the spirit of Sudhir & Vinod.
Soon after the disastrous beginning of their work, Sudhir & Vinod manage to get some work from the shrewd & hypocritic editor of Khabardar – Shobha Sen (Bhakti Barve). Khabardar is a publication house that exposes the scandalous & entangled lives of the famous & rich people. The duo start working on their first project of exposing the deals between the unprincipled builder Tarneja (Pankaj Kapur) & the corrupt Municipal Commissioner D’Mello (Satish Shah). During investigation, the duo finds out that there is yet another angle to this scandal; another builder Ahuja (Om Puri) is also involved in the deal. Tarneja & his siders -Priya (Neena Gupta) & Ashok (Satish Kaushik), bribe D’Mello with estate, cash & a Swiss chocolate cake to get the tender of building a flyover passed. This leads to the unforgettable moment of  “Thoda Khao, Thoda Feko”.
The other candidate competing for D’Mello’s favors is Ahuja. He baits D’Mello with more money; D’Mello agrees to it. Tarneja learns of D’Mello’s deceit & knocks him off.
Meanwhile, Vinod & Sudhir decide to participate in a photography contest which has the prize money of Rs.5000. They set off on their journey all over the city to click photographs. When the duo develop the snaps, they come  across a photo that shows a man shooting someone. Much to their surprise, the killer is Tarneja.
They immediately run to the murder site & find the body behind the bushes. The body suddenly disappears. The duo somehow retrieve the body & click number of pictures of the corpse, with a hope to expose Tarneja.
Later, the duo realize that Tarneja, Ahuja, Shobha & the Assistant Municipal Commissioner, Shrivasta (Deepak Qazir) are upto no good. Everyone gets confused in a series of comic mix-ups including the scene of the stage dramatisation of Mahabharat which later on turns into Mughal-e-Azam. This makes things more hilarious.
In the end, Sudhir & Vinod hand over the proofs to the police & Tarneja is about to get arrested when Shrivastav interferes to talk to the police for a while. In the mean time, Tarneja threatens Ahuja & Shobha to expose them if he gets arrested. Shrivastava manages to put the blame of D’Mello’s murder & the collapse of the flyoveron Sudhir & Vinod.
The movie as whole focuses on the irony of how corruption has engulfed the country. Although the movie does not have happy ending but leaves a smile on our face. A must watch!
